ShopSynq vs Shopify for Indian Small Businesses

By ShopSynqLast reviewed: Shopify pricing checked:

Quick answer

ShopSynq and Shopify are built around different operating models. Shopify is a global storefront platform that you extend with apps. ShopSynq is an India-focused commerce operating system that puts the storefront, counter billing, shared inventory, WhatsApp workflows, Partial COD and Meta catalogue sync in one product. Which one fits depends on whether your business is storefront-led or runs online and counter sales together. This page compares them capability by capability and flags where ShopSynq has gaps.

Operating-model differences

  • Shopify is a storefront platform with a large app ecosystem around it. Capabilities such as WhatsApp messaging or advanced counter retail are added through apps or paid tiers such as POS Pro.
  • ShopSynq is a commerce operating system for sellers who run online and counter sales together. The storefront, counter billing, shared inventory, customer workflows, WhatsApp workflows, Partial COD and Meta catalogue sync live in one product, with fewer apps to assemble.
  • The trade-off is breadth versus integration. Shopify offers a wider ecosystem, marketplace channels and developer APIs. ShopSynq offers a tighter single-system setup for India-specific counter and COD workflows, and does not yet offer marketplace sync or a public API.
  • Moving between them is work in both directions. See the section on moving below.

Where ShopSynq has product gaps

These are capabilities ShopSynq does not offer today. Check them against your own requirements before choosing.

  • Product gap

    Marketplace integrations

    ShopSynq does not sync with Amazon, Flipkart or Meesho today. These integrations are on the roadmap. If live marketplace sync decides your choice, ShopSynq does not cover it yet.

  • Product gap

    Public API and webhooks

    ShopSynq does not offer a public developer API or webhooks today. Both are on the roadmap. Teams building on top of store data need Shopify’s APIs for now.

  • Product gap

    App ecosystem

    ShopSynq has no third-party app marketplace. Workflows beyond its built-in features cannot be extended through apps the way they can on Shopify.

  • Product gap

    International selling

    ShopSynq is India-focused and does not offer Shopify’s international selling tools, such as multi-currency storefronts.

  • Product gap

    Variants per product

    Variants per product are capped on ShopSynq (8 per product on the current pricing page). Check this if you carry many size and colour combinations.

Which sellers each model may fit

ShopSynq may fit if you:

Shopify may fit if you:

  • depend on a large app ecosystem and specialist agencies;
  • need marketplace channels, developer APIs or international selling tools;
  • are online-first and the counter is secondary or handled elsewhere;
  • are already invested in Shopify apps, workflows and team training, and switching would cost more than it saves.

For a wider view beyond these two, see other Shopify alternatives in India. For counter software specifically, see ecommerce and POS software in India. You can also review all ShopSynq features.

Moving from Shopify

Changing platforms is work. Export your catalogue, rebuild products and stock in the new system, and test checkout, payments and counter billing on a few real orders before switching over. Do not assume a one-click migration that preserves every app, theme and URL. ShopSynq supports Excel bulk upload for products.
