Best Shopify Alternatives in India for Small Businesses
By ShopSynqLast updated:
Quick answer
There is no single best Shopify alternative in India. The right choice depends on how your business operates. The useful comparison is not the storefront price alone. It is whether POS, inventory, WhatsApp workflows and COD operations need separate tools.
- Online-first or international brand: Shopify is often still the sensible choice, thanks to its mature global ecosystem and apps.
- Developer-led store: WooCommerce gives full control, if you can manage hosting and plugins.
- Online-only small seller: Dukaan or Zoho Commerce are options to evaluate.
- Business already on Zoho: Zoho Commerce with Zoho POS.
- Seller running online + counter: compare systems that run storefront, POS billing and shared inventory together, such as ShopSynq.

Why Indian sellers evaluate Shopify alternatives
Shopify is a mature, capable platform. Indian small businesses usually compare alternatives because of how their operations are set up, not because Shopify is weak.
- Payment surcharge. India is not on Shopify Payments' supported-countries list, so Indian stores use a third-party provider. Shopify then adds a fee of 2% (Basic), 1% (Grow), 0.6% (Advanced) or 0.2% (Plus) on top of the gateway's charges. COD, set up as a manual payment method, carries no such fee.
- Counter retail is a separate tier. Paid plans include casual in-person selling. Staff roles, in-store inventory management and in-store pickup sit in POS Pro at ₹7,000 per location per month (billed yearly).
- India-specific workflows often mean apps. WhatsApp order messages and partial-advance COD are typically added through apps, which bring their own fees and settings.
- Different price range. Shopify Basic is ₹1,499/month billed yearly (₹1,994 monthly). Some India-focused platforms price per year instead.
These points matter less for a well-funded D2C brand. They matter more for a small retailer who wants one counter, one website and one stock count.
Shopify
Suited to: online-first D2C brands, businesses selling internationally, and merchants who want a mature app and partner ecosystem.
- Strengths: mature global platform; integrates with thousands of apps; full online store on every plan; 10 inventory locations on Basic to Advanced; social and marketplace selling on all plans; no setup fee; native COD.
- Additional setup for India: third-party provider fee (2% / 1% / 0.6% / 0.2% by plan); POS Pro for advanced counter features; apps for WhatsApp automation and partial COD. Over 50 synced marketplace orders, Shopify charges 1% (up to $99/month).
- Pricing (checked 11 Oct 2026): ₹1,499 / ₹5,599 / ₹22,680 per month billed yearly (₹1,994 / ₹7,447 / ₹30,164 monthly); Plus from ₹1,75,000/month.
- Operating model: one platform with an app ecosystem around it.
WooCommerce
Suited to: businesses with a developer or agency that want control over code, hosting and checkout.
- Strengths: core is free and open source; no platform fee or revenue share; COD is built into core.
- Additional setup: you pay for and maintain hosting. WooCommerce's own estimate is $25–$350/month for most stores, with extensions at $29–$299/year each (vendor estimates in USD, not India-specific). POS, WhatsApp, Partial COD and Meta catalogue need plugins. Updates and security are your responsibility.
- Operating model: self-hosted software plus a plugin stack.
Dukaan
Suited to: online-only small sellers who want a hosted store.
- Strengths (vendor claims): hosted storefront and app, bulk product upload, payment gateway integration, staff accounts, multi-warehouse and a plugin marketplace.
- Additional setup: counter POS billing is not documented on the current official site. WhatsApp chat is a plugin (a chat link, not order automation). The official RTO optimizer plugin uses credits and can suggest partial payment on some COD orders.
- Pricing: not shown. Dukaan's rupee prices did not display on its official pricing page when we checked on 11 Oct 2026, so we have not listed any. Check mydukaan.io/pricing directly.
- Operating model: hosted ecommerce plus plugins.
Zoho Commerce + Zoho POS
Suited to: businesses already running Zoho apps.
- Strengths: Zoho Commerce lists no transaction fee on paid plans, free hosting, no setup fee, an ONDC sales channel, and WhatsApp Commerce from the Professional plan. Zoho POS has a free plan, with offline billing, barcode, multi-location and e-way bills from Standard.
- Additional setup: storefront and POS are separate products with separate subscriptions. Zoho POS's pricing page lists a Shopify integration rather than a bundled Zoho Commerce link. Partial COD was not found.
- Pricing (checked 11 Oct 2026): Zoho POS ₹0 / ₹649 / ₹1,299 / ₹2,099 per location/month billed annually (₹799 / ₹1,599 / ₹2,499 monthly), taxes extra. Zoho Commerce Starter ₹99/month billed annually (1 user, 25 listings). Higher Zoho Commerce tier prices did not render on the official page, so they are not listed here.
- Operating model: an ecosystem of separate apps.
ShopSynq
Suited to: Indian small and growing retailers, boutiques and WhatsApp/Instagram sellers who sell online and at a counter.
ShopSynq is not a Shopify clone. It is an India-focused commerce operating system, a Business Command Center for sellers who run online and counter sales together.
- What is live: online storefront, POS/billing, shared inventory, CRM and customer workflows, coupons and offers, WhatsApp integration with automatic order confirmation, Partial COD/advance collection, Meta catalogue sync, and reports/business insights.
- Plan details: unlimited orders and GST/POS invoices on every plan; no per-order fee from ShopSynq. Partial COD, custom domain and barcode printing from Standard, not Basic. WhatsApp workflows are available in ShopSynq, subject to plan/provider setup. For online payments, connect a supported online payment gateway.
ShopSynq pricing (checked 11 Oct 2026):
ShopSynq’s standard self-service plans are billed annually. Figures labelled “/month equivalent” are the annual price divided by twelve for comparison — not monthly instalments. If you prefer monthly billing, contact support; monthly options may be available by arrangement (no public monthly sticker prices).
- Basic: ₹1,999/year (₹167/month equivalent)
- Standard: ₹4,999/year (₹417/month equivalent)
- Premium: ₹9,999/year (₹833/month equivalent)
Self-service setup is the default. Optional guided onboarding is available on request; a setup charge may apply when guided help is requested (disclosed before purchase — no exact amount listed here). Payment gateway and shipping provider fees stay separate where you connect them. A 7-day money-back guarantee applies to the first eligible paid subscription—details on the /refund-policy. See /pricing for the full plan comparison.
- Limits to know: Amazon, Flipkart and Meesho integrations and a public API are on the roadmap, not live. Payment gateway, courier and WhatsApp provider charges are billed by those providers. Staff 1 / 5 / 15 and warehouses 1 / 2 / 5 by plan; variants per product are capped (8 per product on the current pricing page).
- Operating model: one system for storefront, counter and stock. See all features and plan details.

Official vendor pages, 11 October 2026. Taxes may apply. Gateway, courier and WhatsApp provider rates are set by those providers and are not listed.
How to use it: add the platform fee, every app or plugin you will actually install, the payment surcharge on your expected online volume, and any separate POS subscription. A low headline price can end up costing more once those are added.
Which option fits which seller?
- Online-first D2C brand: Shopify, especially if you rely on apps or agencies. Dukaan or Zoho Commerce are simpler hosted options to evaluate for India-only online selling.
- International commerce: Shopify, for its global selling tools and ecosystem.
- Developer-led store: WooCommerce for full control, or Shopify if you want a hosted platform with apps.
- Boutique or fashion retailer: if you sell in the shop as well as on Instagram/WhatsApp, prioritise counter billing, shared stock and Partial COD in one system. ShopSynq fits this pattern; see ShopSynq for boutiques. Check variant limits for large size/colour ranges.
- Physical retailer going online: choose a system where the counter and website share one stock count, to avoid overselling. Compare ShopSynq, Zoho POS + Zoho Commerce, or Shopify POS Pro if you are already on Shopify. More in inventory for online and counter sales.
- WhatsApp/Instagram seller: look for WhatsApp order messages, Meta catalogue sync and advance-payment COD without extra apps. See how to sell on WhatsApp in India.
- Store needing online + counter billing: one system with storefront and POS (ShopSynq), or Zoho POS if the counter is the main business. See one system for store and billing and ecommerce + POS software in India.
- Business already on Zoho: Zoho Commerce + Zoho POS keeps you inside one vendor's apps, with two subscriptions.
When ShopSynq may fit
ShopSynq may fit if you:
- sell online and at a counter and want one stock count;
- want WhatsApp order confirmation, Partial COD and Meta catalogue sync in the same system (check plan and provider setup);
- prefer a yearly plan with unlimited orders and GST/POS invoices and no per-order platform fee;
- run a small or growing team (up to 15 staff and 5 warehouses on Premium).
ShopSynq is likely not the right fit today if you need live Amazon, Flipkart or Meesho sync, a public developer API, international multi-currency selling, or ERP-scale multi-store operations.
When Shopify may fit better
Shopify may be the better choice if you:
- depend on a large app ecosystem and specialist agencies;
- want a mature global platform with extensive themes and documentation;
- sell internationally;
- are already invested in Shopify apps, workflows and team training, and switching would cost more than it saves.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the best Shopify alternative in India?
- There is no single best option; it depends on your operating model. WooCommerce suits developer-led teams, Dukaan and Zoho Commerce are options for online-only sellers, Zoho POS plus Zoho Commerce suits businesses already on Zoho, and ShopSynq is built for sellers who want storefront, POS billing, shared inventory and WhatsApp workflows in one system. Shopify remains a strong choice for online-first and international brands.
- Is there a Shopify alternative with POS and billing?
- Yes. ShopSynq includes counter POS/billing and unlimited GST/POS invoices on every plan, with inventory shared between online and counter. Zoho sells POS as a separate product (Zoho POS). Shopify itself includes casual in-person selling on paid plans, with advanced store tools in POS Pro.
- Which Shopify alternative supports WhatsApp?
- WhatsApp workflows, including automatic order confirmation, are available in ShopSynq, subject to plan/provider setup; provider charges are billed separately. Zoho Commerce lists WhatsApp Commerce from its Professional plan. Dukaan and WooCommerce rely on plugins, and Shopify uses apps.
- What is a good Shopify alternative for boutiques?
- Boutiques that also sell from a shop usually need counter billing, shared stock and WhatsApp/Instagram ordering in one place. ShopSynq is designed around that combination. Check variant limits if you carry many size and colour combinations.
- Can I offer Partial COD without Shopify?
- Yes. ShopSynq includes Partial COD (an advance paid online, the balance on delivery) on its Standard and Premium plans; you need to connect a supported online payment gateway. On WooCommerce and Dukaan it depends on plugins. Native Partial COD was not found in Shopify's or Zoho's official documentation.
- Is ShopSynq a Shopify clone?
- No. ShopSynq is an India-focused commerce operating system for sellers who run online and counter sales together. It does not offer Shopify's app ecosystem or international selling tools, and Amazon, Flipkart and Meesho integrations are on its roadmap, not live.
- Which platform suits online and offline retail in India?
- Choose a setup where the website and the counter share one inventory and billing record. ShopSynq does this in one product, Zoho uses two products (Commerce and POS), and Shopify offers advanced store features through POS Pro.
- Are the prices on this page current?
- Prices were checked on official vendor pages on 11 October 2026. Dukaan prices and Zoho Commerce higher-tier prices were not displayed at that time. Prices change, so confirm on each vendor's page before buying.
